  • How to Pick a Good Presentation Template

Presentation templates can save you a lot of time, effort, and even money although most of the professional templates are not free. But how to choose exactly that one and not be mistaken? Below we collected the main technical points to pay attention to.

Flexible design

We do not recommend using overwhelmed templates with a ton of graphic elements that are distributed without enough white space between them and text content. Such templates are not flexible and you might get struggle with a lack of space for your content. Professional presentation templates consider some additional space for more text content.

Customization options

I think there is no one reason to explain to you why you strongly do not need a presentation template where you can’t choose other colors for shapes, or can’t edit the data in charts or infographics. You might think that only free templates have such problems but it is not the truth. Frequently it happens even in paid templates. So be careful when you choose the template. Do not hesitate to read the description of the template and find something about customization options.

Included assets

A good presentation template must include all the assets which were used such as icons, illustrations, etc. As a bonus, the author might include additional assets that will give you more creative freedom to represent your message.

Keep in mind that most of the presentation templates don’t include used images that you see in the slides preview.

Slides quantity

It is the most common fraud you can come across. Does the template promise 100 slides? Be careful! Sometimes you will get 20 unique slides in 5 different color variations. If you do not see all the quantity of slides in the template preview images as was mentioned in the description then it might be a fraud and we do not recommend buying such a template.

License

Imagine that you've found a cool presentation template doesn’t matter it is free or paid but you can’t use it because you don’t have a license right for it. Nice? Almost all free templates have not given you permission to use the template for Сommerical purposes only for personal use. Paid templates also have a personal license but unlike free templates, you can buy a Commercial license.

But what is the difference between Personal and Commercial licenses?

Personal license

A Personal license allows you to use presentation templates only for personal purposes without any commercial activity. In other words, if you are a company of any size or individual person who wants to create a pitch deck template or marketing deck, or create a presentation for your client you do not have a right to do this on a Personal license.

Commercial license

A commercial license gives you much more freedom so you can create presentations for your clients or use it in your company, etc. Exception re-distribution source files of the template and create end-products for sale. Keep in mind that usually, a Commerical license will cost x2 of a Personal license.

Of course, the license rules can be different depending on the source where you get your template so you need to carefully read how you can and how you can't use the template.

Support

Each independent author has its own methods of the creation process so if you are a familiar presentation software user it doesn’t mean that you won’t have any troubles and questions on how to work with the template. Check if the author of the template indicated email for support requests and included a user guide manual with the template.
